I finally did 'em in,(regrettably),noticed a sore on the bottom of the feet, one worse than the other, but nothing severe. Found out from my girlfriend (who's a newly minted chicken fanatic), that it's probably something called " Bumblefoot". Bird is soaking in the brine now, Was planning on Turkey BBQ today. Is this a good idea?

Not a problem as long as you dont eat the foot!

Thank you everybody, The turkey was delicious. I brined it overnight and BBQd with an indirect wood fire. Best turkey I've ever tasted; moist and tender and smoky, yum yummy. Thanks to you all, I didn't have that nagging doubt about safety whilst having dinner.
