I have searched and all I see is the info for chicks. Here is the specifics:

RIR Pullet
Approximately 13 weeks old
Chick Starter fed free choice/ Occasional Scratch (1 cup a day for 9 chickens)/ Free Range 1-2 hours a day in an enclosed grass yard
Coop with pine shavings/ Run with dirt, pine shavings, sand
Water with ACV

We spend a lot of time with our chickens and this seems to be a problem that we noticed happened all of a sudden.....although it could have been gradual as she is not one that likes to be handled. The S curve is very pronounced making her walk like Igor (this is the part that was so sudden as yesterday she was fine!). She can stretch it out to eat and drink. Her activity level is fine. She is out with all the other chickens and gets around fine.

Can chickens this age get wry neck?
What should I do for her?

Thanks!

It will need vit E and Vit B complex
as soon as you can get it
Was she vaccinated for Mareks?

even if she is it is a neurological problem
may have been hit up on by a heavier chicken

do this

(A) natural probiotic wet mash with Vit E and Vit B complex added immediately
basically the hen have some nerve damage do this immediately
need neurolodigal vit E and Vit B complex for nervous disorder Also the apple cider vineager in water

(1) 2 tbsp per gallon of water till chickens are well and the 2 times a week for life

(2 immediately give the chicken 1000 mg capsule of liquid Vit E by cutting the end of the capsule and taking the vit E liquid and mix in wet mash probiotic

(2-B) total amt of capsules equals the total amt of chickens fed vit's

(3 also need to crush a vit B complex pill in tabsp and add it the chickens wet mash after it is disolved

(3-B) Do both Vit's twice today then for 7 days till you see some improvement in the chicken

(3-C) then give this to the chicken twice a week for two weeks should see much improvement

(4 generally the shock of a event like a larger chicken provocation on top of hens will cause chickens to have this nerve damage

(5 today I would see if the chicken will eat a wet mash with the Vitamins E and B complex

(-B) THIS IS FOR ONE CHICKEN (multiply by the amt of chickens you have to eat this wet mash and Vitamins)

natural probiotic wet mash
2 tbp of dry crumbles
4 tbp of milk sweet, sour or buttermilk
1 tbsp of non flavored yogurt
mix good and put the
vit E liquid as directed in the wet mash
and crumble the Vit B complex tablet in a tabsp and add to the wet mash
**BESURE AND MIX VIT'S VERY GOOD IN WET MASH*** so all chickens get their share

(6 Do this twice a day for 7 days to see if the chicken is better
then do this once a day for another week then once a week for a while
this should give the nervous system some stability

(6-A) they should clean it up in 20-30 minutes

(7
you can email by PM for more information and include this inf so I remember what is happening

Thank you for the info! I was thinking more about it today and we have a rooster who has been low man on the chicken totem pole who is suddenly wanting to take his place at the head of the flock. There has been a LOT of fighting going on the past few days so maybe that is it.

I do not know if they were vaccinated for Mareks. We purchased our chicks from a feed store, and I don't know if they have to be vaccinated or not.

Will give her the vitamin e and the b complex tonight.

Thanks again!

it could be from an injury..
but give the chick some Vitamin B and E as Miss Glenda posted.

for B complex, you can use Poly-vi-sol liquid baby vitamins, Enfamil brand if possible, no iron..2-3 drops on beak once a day for a week, then taper off for another week.

keep watch for respiratory illness, since sometimes this S curved neck can be a symptom of a few certain diseases.
keep an eye on appetite, behavior, and change in droppings.

We have been doing all that was advised, but her neck has not improved at all. We are thinking it may be a genetic issue. She has no signs of any progressing issue such as Marek's or respiratory issues.

However, we have noticed that she has become the lowest chicken in the pecking order and the others will not allow her to eat much. She has become very, very skinny and can't seem to handle the heat as well as the others.

I am leaning towards culling as we hope to raise chicks and have a healthy laying stock, but I will admit I feel guilty. What would you do?

what happened to your baby? Mine has been getting treated for 4 days and I see no improvement-it is eating and drinking though...hope yours is ok?
