Ok...in just a few days i wil be at day 18.."lockdown"

I would kindly love the list of VERY important things i need to have in order before i dig my feet and and wait for the hatch.

FYI: I have 11 MFD egg's and 4 Buff. O egg's

I have a decent idea of what i need to do, but it doesn't hurt to double check with the pro's..i.e you guys!

So...i know my humid needs to be higher correct??? in the middle 60's to 70's. SO....do i add a wet sponge by it's self inside the bator??? Or should it be in a dish of water so it will always be moist until day 21??

Things like what i described above are what im after. Plus any other helpful hint's and tip's on what i should do when " insert action here" happens. I will be witting own pip and zip times to keep track of how they are doing so i would know when and if i need to help or not. Thanks guys, will be watching this thread like a hawk until they hopefully hatch!

Didn't see your post til now!
Do not open the bator.
Make sure your temps and humidity are set and stable!

Oh and it can take 24+ hours from pip to zip.
I don't need a sponge for my bator but if you add one I would probably put it in a dish so you don't run the risk of needing to add water. You can always open the vent if the humidity is too high or close it if it gets low.

I hope your hatch goes well!!

You may need a simple wicking device like a shoe string or cut a small piece of a wash cloth.

If you had one of those small clear tubes and a syringe, you could keep the water levels in for the correct humidity.

Good luck!

On day 18 I remove both plugs & that makes the humidity drop, but the air circulation is needed & that's a way to get more (I have still air) air in. I keep a straw & a baby nasal aspirator (also caleled a bulb) & I ad water that way. I don't use a dish, becaue I had in the past & it was just filled with water but didn't seem effective. I put a sponge under the wire (not on top of the wholes) & then if the sponges start to dry up I just add water to them & they tend to absort it & so it doesn't seem to run out. If I'm still having trouble pumping up the humidity I then add a sock &/or a wash cloth & you can add water to them using the straw as well. Recently someone had suggested a fine mist sprayer in case you need to reach in & that will help keep the humidity & I did use this & it was really great.... Remember lock down & then don't open the bator & if you do (only when needed of course) fine mist water spray. good luck..

thank you schultz... and mom2cool. But i have a few question's

You say you add water through a straw....im guessing you put the straw through the open red plug area??? Or did you drill/poke out a spacific place to put the straw in to add the water???

Also...i candled on day 10...LOT'S of swimming around movement. "BANTY" egg's BTW.. Then i candled tonight "day 16" and the air cells seem to have got very large...allmost oblong, and all i see are huge black masses??? I see hardly next to no movement at all...just that huge black space. At the rim of the air cell's..i can still make out vains...but im worried i killed them somehow because they will not move for me

Is is because i am candleing bantam egg's and how small the egg is??? Reason i ask is that i candled one of my buff O. eggs and that little guy was kickin like a ninja inside his shell!! I sure hope everything is allright with my banty eggs.

What kind of incubator are you using and do you have a hygrometer in there?

With my Genesis I kept the humidity at 65-75 and when it would get to 65 I used a turkey baster filled with warm water and added it through the red vent plug and put the plug back on.
I was instructed to NOT OPEN THE BATOR!! and I did not. By the way...thanks to all who told me that.
After the first 3 hatched the humidity stayed high enough and all the rest came out without sticking. I noticed the last 2-3 had a few bits of shell stuck to them but I let it be. I did not help any of them as I feel that they need to get out themselves plus after all the coaching I was NOT OPENING THE BATOR!! LOL

They were hatched on day 19 and every one made it fine.

I kept mine at 40-50 on days 1-18 then on 18 moved them to the other incubator and raised humidity to 65-75 as instructed on this site. I think that is what everyone told me to do and if not...it worked anyway!
