So far I've had personal experience with 2 different Blue Andalusian roos and they were both very very aggressive. I wouldn't try keeping one again.
You know there are tendencies among breeds for certain temperments, and then there are always individual variations. If you're not particular about breed, but just want a roo who is non-aggressive towards humans & gentle with his hens, check with local chicken keepers for folks giving away nice roosters for free. You'll be more likely to know the roo's temperment once he's full-grown, and if he's a gentleman he'll behave just as well for you. Raising a roo from a chick is no guarantee he'll be easy to handle once he's grown. Sometimes they'll let you handle them a lot while they're chicks, then when they mature their temperment changes for the worse.
Plus you'll feel good knowing you kept a deserving roo off the table.
