Is a rooster with a swollen foot safe to eat?

We have too many roosters (as I mentioned in another thread). One of them which we probably won't be keeping has a swollen foot that he's been favoring for the last few days. I'm not sure what's wrong with it. He has also had crooked or curled middle toes for as long as I can remember. He is the only one with the crooked toes. Anway, I was wondering if it would be safe to butcher and eat this chicken if his foot were infected or something?
 
Hmmm, well if his foot is infected it is in his system and you eating it will risk getting it in yours. My answer is NO, don't take a chance. even if it is something in his foot like some foreign object, chances are he is running a fever for it to be swollen....NO NO NO..
 
That's pretty much what I was thinking. Not quite sure how it all works though. Perhaps this will just buy him some extra time until he is all healed up.
 
Take some pictures of the foot top and bottom and post them. If it's a deformity he could just have arthritic joints or joint breakdown as a result. If the bottom of the foot has black scabs that look like discs in the pad it would be a infection, usually staph.
