Earlier today I saw a chicken of mine laying on its side. I tried picking it up, and it can't stand. One leg appears to be messed up, although neither is paralyzed, I had a busy day, so I left it alone to see what would happen.

I went back in later this evening and checked on it, the chicken is still alive, it's still unable to stand, but when I lifted it's wing, it obviously was in pain. I looked closer and above its leg there's an are with no feathers on it, and the skin area looks very raw. What could be the cause of it??

UPDATE:

I went back again and looked at it, the skin just looks like skin, but its obvious that the feathers are missing from that area. The chicken's legs are also almost shivering, just shaking very fast, but one leg will vibrate, then the other one. It's really odd. Again, it can move both of its legs, but it can't seem to get either the strength or the nerve response to actually stand, pretty pitiful looking really.

Just fyi, the liquid is water, I had to pour it on the chicken to clean the dirt of the problem area.

First thing I would do is pull the bird out into a separate cage-it is probably a matter of time before the others start picking on it. The shivering COULD be due to pain.
I would try putting some Blu-Kote or Neosporin without pain reliever on the injuries.
Give her some electrolytes in the water and maybe boil up and mash an egg to get her to eat.
Could she have fallen off the perch or maybe gotten ahold of some moldy food or something else toxic?
Good luck to you.

I'm pretty sure there wasn't any moldy food, def. could have fallen off a perch, but why would the leg be missing the feathers?
