Here are pics of my sweet trio of ~6 week old Mottled Java Chicks. I am pretty sure I have one girl... very small, very yellow comb. The two others, I'm thinking may be boys... bigger pinker combs... one more so than the other though. This is my first time with this breed (they were extras... but I just LOVE them! so even though they were not "planned" they are totally keepers!). I am really looking forward to hearing opinions on the sex of these 3 chicks from people that are familiar with this wonderful breed!

Here's all three, I think the ones in the back are my 2 boys and the one up front is my girl

Thank you so much for posting... I'm really excited about these sweet little Java's. Of course, I wish I had 2 girls and a boy... but, I'll take'em!
So this girl of mine is a real character. She runs to the door of the coop to meet me and when I enter the coop she jumps up on my shoes (crocs, the ones with holes) and tries to "get" my toes though the holes... it's pretty funny and thankfully it doesn't hurt. I can scoop her up, hold her in my hand and pet her... she's totally relaxed... doesn't want down at all... actually when I put her down... she comes right back! Such a sweetie... she really seems to like (even want) the attention... I've never had a chick quite like this.
I don't know if this is "normal" java behavior... but, she's hooked me for sure!

I KNEW you would love them!!! LOLOL They look great, looks like 2 boys, one girl. They are already showing GREAT pigment on their feet! Hopefully most of their shanks go dark black. It seems to be the preferred look. I think yours will. If I were you, I would keep the roo with the least white feathers. This line sometimes gets too much white going on... Congratulations on your starter flock though... they look great! Please be sure to spread the love... when you start getting fertile eggs, get other breeders going to promote the breed. It is such a great breed, and a shame they are on the critical endangered list! My roo tipped over, so I am out until I grow out a new roo... It's up to you now... keep that breed afloat!

Actually, I love all the babies we got from you... they are all doing wonderfully and growing like weeds... these are some seriously healthy chicks!
I'm planning to build a whole bunch of pens for all these wonderful breeds you sent us. I want to collect eggs next spring to hatch out and share with our 4H group... I think when chicken people get a glimpse of these java's they will feel like I do and will want to promote this beautiful breed. Oh and those feet are getting darker by the minute... I think it's cool that the feet change colors just like the feathering.
I'm sad to hear that your roo tipped over

... I'm glad you have another roo to grow out though.
Always great to hear from you Patty!!!
