Hello all
enjoy the site, lots of great information here
I would like to start raising sex links with a new hamphire red over a silver lace wyandotte
Does anyone know of any potential problems that would arise with recessive/masked genes being present in this specific mating
I know some breeds don't make good pairings does anyone have any experience with this pairing.
Also does anyone have any pics of chicks produced from this pairing.

There wouldnt be any recessive or masked genes in those two breeds and they would work fine. You should get rose combed sexlinked offspring with the pullets being light red with black tails and the males being mostly white with some gold comming through.

Also a note that if you chose this particular pairing of breeds because you, like many others, also fell victim to the false information on the internet saying that breeding NH roos with SL hens gives Cinnamon Queens ( single combed with white tails like the ones Cackle sales). This cross does NOT produce that. The White tails combes from Dominant White being used in the cross and neither of parent breeds you have chosen carry Dominant White.

Otherwise, they should still make good sexlinks.

I think thats what the cross is called on feathersite. There's all kinds of names floating around out there and really only the breeders know what the combos are on most of them. Anyway, I think a lot of it is a guessing game mostly IMO

Yep, thats true, that info probably is on feathersite and I've seen it in a sexing book before too. But like you said, only the hatcheries really know and they arent going to tell you the truth about whats in them and most of the parent stock are probably hybrids themselves.
