I tend to let nature take its course with my Broodies, I've got two mother hens sharing 4 chicks right now that hatched a couple weeks ago---boy are they growing fast eating mulberries, bugs and grass. I still have two broodies sitting on eggs, this morning there was a egg pushed out of the nest of the broody that's closest to hatch date (should be this week). I was going to slip it back in the nest, then thought better and carried it outside the coop---------it exploded------I'm still washing the smell off.
So......the moral of the story is.........trust the MotherHen and be careful around the "discards".

Very good lesson, broodies have instinctual behaviour that we don't always catch on to right away. Happy scrubbing!
