Buff Orpington , got her April 1st, Approx 13 weeks old, feels thin but not terribly skinny...yet.
Symptoms:
I have noticed she is extremely shy, flighty compared to the rest (11 total, 6 roos, 5 hens)
Trying to catch her in the open is about like trying to catch a wild quail most of the time. I have noticed when ever I come out to feed or give treats she hangs way back. When she does finally approach food she spends forever inspecting it. It seems to me that compared to the other chickens she always turns her head completely sideways (always left eye pointing to ground) to look at food. she takes a couple of pecks and moves off from the group. I caught her laying down to eat the other day. I was able to walk up to her and pick her up (big red flag). I took her to the coop and filled the feeders with food and she stood there and ate until her crop was bulging. I don't see the other chickens bullying her and in fact she has one rooster who is very protective of her. I can't decide if she is super finicky or ill. She seems to prefer straight chicken feed to treats. She often inspects something so long before eating it the other chickens finish it all before she gets more than a few pecks. I am thinking of letting the flock out in the mornings but keeping her in until she has a full crop. Any ideas or opinions? Eyesight seems fine she can spot the flock an acre away and will run to be near them.
