Hi, I am new to the chicken world..we just got 16 pullets. They are about a 2 weeks old now 2 are 3weeks. Anyway..I just can't figure out if 1 of my little ones is sick. She seems so sleepy and is always laying down. None of the others seem to lay down as much as she is. She does get up if they all get spooked or I start reaching in the brooder. She seems to not walk as well as the others but that is if I really watch her, she only really takes maybe a few steps then immediately lays down. I have never seen her eat/drink. I have inspected her to see that she is not pasted up and she 1 or 2 that are smaller than the others. She is not panting or chirping or anything. I can't tell if she is sick or just sleepy or what? Should I get some vitamin supplements? I feed medicated starter and I read that sometimes lack of thiamine can cause these symptoms?

On another note: I don't know if I should put in seperate post but I found some blood on top of my water glass container this morning. I heard alot of ruckus last night, maybe flying around etc..I have checked all of my chicks and they all seem fine. No bloody poop either..? ( I know it is not from the sleepy one,she doesn't fly up on it)? ANy ideas? My chicks don't seem to be mean to one another or any seriously picking on each other..?

I don't know about the blood, but, yes, I'd say your pullet is sick. Put her in a separate pen, I always like to isolate our sick ones so they can hear and/or see the others if possible, cause I think it reduces stress. Hard to know how to treat without any more symptoms than that...vitamin supplements would be a good place to start.

Just got done seperating the little chickie into another box and she is just peeping so loud. She is so sad..she attempted flying out several times and has jumped up onto the water bottle..she is in the same room as the others but they are being very quiet.

I know it's hard...do you have an old aquarium or something to put her in, a small pen or dog carrier or something so she can see them? Don't know where you got your pullets, but wherever it was I would try to call, see if they have any others sick or just see what they say when you tell them what's happening with yours. It could be a neurological thing too...chickens seem to be prone to a lot of weird illnesses no one can figure out. If she were mine and she is that upset I would probably be tempted to take my chances and put another one with her, but that's up to you, you might end up losing both that way.

If you are willing to possibly lose 2, I would select another chick to put with her. It really sounds like a vitamin deficiency. I would start her on Poly-Vi-Sol 1 drop dribbled along her beak, twice a day for a week, then taper off.

BTW...the pullet I had to give it to squawked when I put it in her mouth. She must have not like the way it tasted. BUt, it DID pick her up!!

Well I am gonna go out and get these vitamins today. I hope it is just vitamin deficiency. Unfortunately I got these from my local feed store and they were not vaccinated for Mareks...
You know this little chick seems to have the energy when she wants to like she flew up trying to get out??
Oh also some other of my chicks have some diarhea..but read that that is normal for the most part, especially with starter feed and I gave them some sow bugs which they loved. I am just getting super worried now, like could it be Marek's, or Cocci..or..or..Should I get Sulmet just in case or..?
ALso because I am freaking a little, this little one doesn't have a low lamp light on her but she is inside my living room..with a light shinning down about a 3 feet above her. It isn't super cold ..guess I should buy a temp gage too huh?
