A picture of the schoolhouse "playhouse" kit we ordered - although this is an 8x12, and we are getting the 8x8 (which will only have 2 windows on each side.) We're going to use it as a coop, rather than a playhouse. I'm thinking we'll call it a "Schoop" :) Assembly is slated for Memorial Day Weekend. WooHoo!
Indoor predator...Magoo. He finally realized that there was something going on in the dog crate after a couple of weeks and decided to investigate. He actually lost interest pretty quickly...I think it was due to the fact that sitting/laying on the crate was not overly comfortable.
This is at a week shy of 3 months old (7/6/12)...on the far side our buff, then our plymouth rock, and then closest our barred plymouth rock. Foraging for some insects before bedtime. We cannot allow them to free range without close supervision due to all the predators we have.
Our first injury, one of our araucauna's at 5 weeks old...we feel it was a result of the brooder getting too crowded. So, after treating the wound with blue kote and some antibiotic cream, we split up the chicks into two separate large dog crates. It worked out perfect and bought us the time we needed until we could complete the coop and move them all out there. We did allow them to still recongregate together almost every day in their outside "playpen", that way the flock stayed cohesive, and we didn't have to worry about reintegrating them again once they moved to the coop.

Our Brooder...a med-large dog crate, customized with cardboard bumpers, shavings and heat lamp. It's working great so far for 9 chicks. We've recently added some roosts (not shown), which they love.
One of our Araucanas, named Avatar. The other is Lightening. :)
One of our Buff Orpingtons...Buttercup or Sponge Bob, not sure which. :)
