We started with 9 little babys, than took in 3 unwanted babys than after moving them out to the coop, we adopted 5 more that was abused and starved Than one of are first ones that was a red, got sick and died, than the rooster got a cold and started sneezing and running eyes but after 6 weeks of babing him, The rooster got all better, But to the best of are abilitys we could not get one chicken to get along with the others no matter what we did, so now we have a house chicken and has to be kept seperate from the others becase they try and kill it every chance they have. She is from the batch of abused animals we took in and if she wants to run the house, we have a chicken diaper we put on her otherwis she likes sitting and walking around on her cage and looking at herself in the mirror. and everyday she goes outside in an area we call the playpen, made just for her while the other chickens are running the yard, so she can see them and they can see her, but once in awhile the rooster will jump the fence and join her in her play pen, case he gets along with her. My family love to watch them, and feed them. Even are dog has took up the challenge of keeping them safe by chasing off anything that might harm them and even has one special white chicken that loves to play with the dog. Its funny to watch. From a lazy cat that shares its food to a pitbull dog that treats them like her own puppys. I do not know what I ever did before getting chickens but they have been wonderfull and the eggs are a reward for happy and healthy back yard chickens.
