Here is our original "coop" aka playhouse. It took a lot of TLC, but it turned out to be a perfect home for the hens.

One of the hazards of my job, I wonder if my hens would eat these? From what I understand they are paper wasps, they congregate in the terminals on the telephone phone poles. Fortunately for me, it was a little chilly on this day, so they just hung out while I worked.

The one rooster we got out of the bunch... He was really a cool guy, not really friendly, but not really mean... He put up a good show by fluffing his neck feathers, jumping towards me and pecking. Instantly calmed when I grabbed him and held him. He was probably plotting my demise, but in my mind he was hanging out with his buddy (me).

panoramic of the coop/run. We built the run around a small shrub (the bottom 1/3 of which has been eaten) the coop itself is under the canopy of a redwood in the yard. We added an automatic door making these chickens some of the more spoiled ones out there. They roam back yard almost everyday, on a mission to turn over every leaf, rock and piece of mulch.

Made a nice coop for the chicks, used a beautiful branch from a redwood for a roost.... instead of using the perch, they slept in a pile under the water bucket for 3 months.
