Finally done! Took about a month after getting the chickens to finish all of the trim work/painting/finishing touches. Put up some solar motion sensing security lights on the front and back sides for when we have to run out there at night, and hopefully to scare away any critters that might try to decide to take a closer look.

We put pea gravel and sand in the run. Of course, now they have dug and stirred dirt into all of it, but I really like the sand in there, helps it dry out quicker and keeps it from becoming a sloppy mess when it rains.

Used 2 dish tubs for the nesting boxes, very easy to pull out and clean, and they have had no problems using them.

Inside of the coop, still a work in progress at this point. We have since added a poop board under the upper roosting bar (one of the best things we've done!) and bracket to hang a feeder below the poop board.

Bringing home the chickens! (They are in the cardboard box at the left of the photo lol). They were 23 weeks old when we got them. 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Black Australorps, 1 Barred Rock and 1 Speckled Sussex.

Painting started, nesting box built. The paint used was one of my best bargains, Dutch Boy satin exterior in the color we wanted, found at Menards in the bargain area for....$5!!! Was over $35 originally.

Kirkland IL Coop

We based our coop off of the Wichita coop design, but decided to make it "L" shaped because we had to keep it a certain distance from the property line, and then we decided to make the roof a square, covering the coop, run and breezeway for accessing the coop and run, which has worked out great. We've had our chickens for just over a month now and it's been awesome so far!
