The door of the coop is on a pulley system. This is so handy. The pine shavings are very deep at this point, because the door isn't working yet, because the run isn't finished.

The chicks lived in the house far too long... Stirring up dust and my allergies! So at this point we put them in the coop until the run was finished.. The loved it!

My son helped me build most of the coop and run. I'm not real comfy with power tools so when he was unavailable I painted!

This is the finished coop and run.. It's heavy and required moving when it was complete. So we added wheels to make that endeavor easier. The nest box will go there on the side but the girls are not quite ready to lay so I haven't installed it yet. I imagine later on I will add on the the run but they get free range of the back yard most days so they are pretty happy I think.

Ok first time chicken owner and first time "building" project! Wow! So fun and a challenge! 90% of the materials used were on hand or up-cycled. The roofing and the hardware cloth were purchased. A few of the hardware items were bought at the restore. So with that in mind.. It's not the ritz but hopefully my chickens think so!
