Been a hectic few weeks. Have a hen sitting. Do not know what day she started. Did not write it down. Have not reworked nesting area until she hatches. My hens and I are new to this. They just started laying Sept 2015. This will be the 2nd time I have a sitting hen. Hope it goes better than my first.
Am so thankful my main flock did not get sick. Have spent my pen expansion budget on meds, extra feed/hay, bleach & Lysol. Looking forward to spring already. Nervous about any upcoming cold weather. Have learned so much on site, just not enough time or money to apply...... Patience creates great appreciation
Latest pic of the sixlets. Last hatchlings when others got sick. These all have stayed healthy. Trying my best to not spread any sickness to them. Had stopped gathering eggs until Feb 2nd. Had to get the sickness out of here.
4 of 8 that made it through the chicken gunja of January 2016. All chicks got sick. 5 roosters and 3 pullets made it through. Have kept 3 girls and 1 rooster. Boy did that sickness clean out the young ones. My main older flock did not get sick.

Last 2 hatchlings that made it to mom's freezer makes a nice 6 pack. Looks like 2 maybe 3 are girls!! Hooray!!! My hatching numbers and live chick #'s were horrible. So signed onto site to learn. Hope hatch rate and live chick rate goes WAY up. Have learned loads on site. And am applying as much as possible.
Got to looking around on site. Sure gives me lots of ideas. And for sure gave me energy to clean up mine and paint front. Compost distributed around garden perimeter. And compost from sick birds in burn pile.
