Cocoa as a pullet. She is my darkest laying Blue Marans. She has a few feathers on her middle toe and that is a problem. I kept her due to her dark dark eggs, big bodacious body and nice lacing. There is no sweeter girl around here than Cocoa! I have been able to breed out the middle toe feather on her progeny and mostly keep the egg color, it has taken 3 years to do so due to the fact that all my solid blue marans had heavier shank feathering. Middle toe feathers are harder to breed out than some other things.
Cuckoo Marans (traditional silver based)
2 Blue copper Marans. The one on the left looks black but he is really a very dark blue! Sometimes they can fool you. One way to tell is to look at the under-fluff, on the blues it will be greyish blue even on the very dark blues.
Monsieur Amour and his young ladies. There is a blue Ameraucana flirt squeezed in there too she loves him lol. He is not related to Cheepa but came from pasofino farms and from a very dark egg. He is an example of an over melanized BCM male.

One of my very darkest layers, Cheepa, as a pullet. Matriarch of our BCM dark egg project. She is a Wade x Presley line cross.
Miss Cheepa as a pullet (BCM). Nice long back and low- low tail. Great for getting dark egg laying babies and lower tails on her offspring.
BCM cockeral. He came from my darkest laying BCM hen, Cheepa and a roo from a very dark egg. I love his coloring and shank feathering. His sisters are laying nice dark eggs. I have used this guy, crossed back to Cheepa, to make a really nice looking male that I am hoping to pass on that super dark egg gene. More pics to come of his offspring...
