Grub

[GALLERY=][/GALLERY]My chicken is 31/2 years old. Her crop swelled up and we emptied it out this morning. The first thing out was this swollen red grub, looks like a meal worm? She is a free feeder and I only give dry mealworms. Can anyone figure why all red? I feel she may have found one alive and it got stuck in her throat and scratched her up? Any comments are appreciated!
She is on the mend, I hope, she seems a bit relieved but still has no voice! My poor beautiful lady!

looks like a caterpillar pod just before butterfly.I would post this article under the Pest and Predator forum. you will get an answer there i am sure.

With some though and research I found it out to be a dung beetle larva. We have them out here and the red spicules are there too...

wow, poor chicken is right. is that common for a chicken to go for the larva?
