Glad u r getting a lot of pix, cuz they will double in size and feather out fast in the next 2 weeks! Mine are 8 weeks now, and all looking like hens. They've transitioned to outside playpen and night shelter since 4.5 weeks. They adjusted to larger pellets - Free of Corn, Soy and GMOs...from a local sustainable source - in the past couple days. The Girls still need a light to calm down some evenings now, since a train in the distance makes them worry at dusks. Their new Coop and Run is being built, and I need to improve their temporary roosts for comfort and so they can all gather above ground without worry. The Teen Phase will be easy for you since you are spending time with yours, congrats!
Love the use of rock in your garden!
Thank you so much! They're 7 weeks (2 are 7.5) today. I'm assuming they're going to start growing even more?!? I try to spend time with them but they're still pretty skittish (except Jessica the BarredRock). I'm slowly earning trust through feedings and treats
Getting outside was the thing that seemed to really launch the growth phase for all, but especially the smallest. I feed them Grape Leaves, Queen Annes Lace and Fennel leaves, in addition to all the complete Starter-Grower Chick Feed they want, and try to be sure they get a bit of grit often, and at least an hour of sunlight on their legs - to be sure they get enough Vit D3 to process all the Vit A and Calcium they get from the extra greens. They love the shade - so inviting them to a direct sun area is a priority for early mornings - before it gets hot. The larger chicks seem more interested in Sun-bathing when they can. Glad for that, and it's adorable!
