First brooder made for first 1/2 dozen chicks 5/24/13 Made from an old wooden crate box. I added wire fabric to the hand hold holes and made the top with the same wire mesh fabric. This is the day we brought them home. We've since added a regular feeder and bedding.

Brooder #2. 1/5' x 3' 5/27/13
Inside brooder 5/26/13. Chicks 5 days old. I found that using well cleaned Parmesan cheese bottles fit the plastic feeders better than Mason jars. And I was able to cut the bottom out of one on the crumble feed for easier filling. They go through it fast! The chicks look like they're having a good gossip around the "water cooler"
5/24/13 Brooder in my daughter's room (heater not on, we use the heat lamp). When they're old enough, they'll go to the coop/brooder outside.

Brooder/Coop inside - gift from neighbor 5/25/13 I plan on enclosing the sides and bottom and putting in nesting boxes, with a ramp and opening into a run for the corner of the yard (will build soon). And I need to move it over, off the slope. I have it propped open after cleaning it out (had some debris in it) and dry the wood. The chicks will go here when they're old enough and then I'll turn it into a regular coop when they are older still. It's a start!
