I built this brooder by transforming a table base I found at a thrift store ($7). I added the platform in the middle, which sits on support boards. The top I constructed from 2x4s and materials I found around the farm. There is hardware mesh surrounding on all sides and top. It is stained with leftover fence & wood stain.. It turned out great! Later, I also added roosts and built in electrical lamp sockets for heat lamps.
The feeder holds the majority contents of a 50lb feed bag. Diatomaceous earth is mixed into the feed as a preventative of internal parasites such as worms.

This is our hen house in the snow. Our coop is 8ftx8ft. It was converted from an old tool shed into this glorious chicken coop. To the interior we added 12 nesting boxes, electrical heat lamp and multiple roosts. On the exterior, we installed a new door we picked up on craigslist.org for $5. The doggie door we got at home depot and the chickens love it!
