I have read that plastic brooders can be a fire hazard, but I have used totes many times and have found that using newpaper as substrate helps with dust (as I think that is what would make it a fire hazard).
I bought one with a locking handle lid. As I mentioned before we have cats so I thought this would be a better option.
Screws and washer to hold tight. We have cats and they have already been on it and it holds up good.
