Influenced by many of the coops on this site, I built this over a 3 day stretch. The requirements were 1) 32 sq feet of run space, 2) walk-in design, 3) cover from elements but airy, and 4) aesthetically pleasing given the prominent position in my garden. Home to 5 hens.
no plans. I just started building it. A few coops featured in the gallery here served as inspiration, particularly for the roof.
I wanted a structure I could walk into, which makes cleaning and maintenance easy. The coop has a large hinged door to provide good access, and 2 windows for natural light and ventilation on hot days. It is rodent and predator proof. The hens are enjoying it.
One modification I am planning is a feeder that is accessible without entering the run. The water system works well, a 5 gallon container keeps the hens watered for a full week.
