My EEs are my heart I have one I love so much it hurts lol.. I've had three chickens get killed this wk so I had to post happy pics.. Sad sad week since my cat is the culprit.. He was their guard things went bad not sure why..six months no incidence one wk 3 gone but here's my EEs my pride and joy
Awww, your girl is lovely. I have a chicken with mutton chop sideburns like those & I just want to cradle her cheeks and kiss her every time I see her, she's so delightful!

Even worse when you know the culprit! You know that you are going to have to restrict the cat's access to the rest of the flock, since it can't be trusted, right? This really stinks & I'm sorry to hear it.

He was their guard he was Olliver the chicken herding cat he helped me round up to coupe like a heeler he lived them killed anything that came in property but never a chicken... This cat has broken my heart to no repair two of the babies (6 months old) were my favorite and all I can think is I am SO .. STUPID!! BUT HE LOVED THEM WATCHED THEM BUT NOT LIKE EXCITED OR FLITTY VERY CALM CLOSED EYES ROMANTICALLY AT THEM HE WOULD MAKE A WIDE SWING AROUND ANY BIRD ANYTIME WHEN HE WALK BY NO CHARGE NO CHASE I DUNNO HE'S A CAT I KNOW INSTINCT BUT WHY when they are SIX MONTHS THESE BIRDS ARE HUGE.. I'm so sorry to those that read this but I really trusted him and never ever trusted a cat with any birds or fish.. I'm stupid it was a phenomenon that was happening and I wouldn't have let it go so long if there was any signs he really really didn't pay attention like that... I can't even go home.. Cat has been removed from farm I have 9 birds left... My birds are my babies they all let me hold them even my rooster even the chickens all bow to me lol (squat) but I'm not home I can't go home there is someone there that raised them with me he's taking care of them and he adores them as much as I.. Just can't go back yet.. they are safe they have back half of my camper now as a huge coupe closes up and is warm...I feel horrible

It WAS NOT MY CAT!!!! RED FOX AND MY CAT WAS FIGHTING WITH FOX THAT HAD MY CHICKEN I DID NOT SEE THIS MY BF WENT UP TO THE WHOLE SCENE I SAW MY CAT RUN OFF I DIDN'T SEE THE FIX I RAN AWAY CRYING CALLED A FRIEND AND LEFT.. MY CAT IS STILL PROTECTING THOSE BIRDS!!! I'M SO IMPRESSED !! I DID NOT KNOW THE FOX WAS SEEN CUZ I LEFT MY KITTY IS A HERO
Oh man, that's so good to hear about your cat trying to protect the birds from the fox! Listen, I know it's hard to face that you lost some. I know that you loved them & they loved you too. But you owe it to the ones who are left to go back and watch over them. They love & need you too. Do what you have to do to predator proof your set-up. But the flock needs you chicken Mom.
Losing them in any way under any circumstances is the crappiest part of having a flock of feathered friends. Cry with them, cry in front of them, apologize & do the best that you can to learn from every experience.
