Since have installed roosting boards and an external nesting box...maximizing indoor open square footage. At 6' X 12' there is plenty of room for the 5 hens and 3 silkies. Used sand for the flooring. Highly satisfied. Hanging the feeder cut down on waste and definitely stays much cleaner. Hanging waterer not successful...ended up installing cinder blocks and resting the waterer on it.
Temporary fencing to separate chickens and dog. The chickens can easily fly out but return when danger sensed. So far dog respecting fence. As budget permits, will be replaced with higher, permanent fence or electric.
Silkies in front of the clean-out door. Every weekend a bit more progress. Last weekend coop stained, after being primed. This week, buried hardware cloth attached to the bottom of the privacy fence. Hope to get the outdoor run finished this weekend.
Coop is a work in progress. Most of the priming completed..one side left, then staining same color as house. Chain link fence on right side enclosing entrance and nest box...installed brick patio from scrap when chimney was rebuild. Right side privacy fence to shield view from street and neighbor. Adding hardware cloth buried below and closing off remainder with electric poultry fence....at least that is today's plan. Dragged an old dog house up to make an isolation area....or housing a silky that turns out to be a rooster.

Access door and window. Added screens 1/2" hardware cloth. First window sill made from MDF failed first rain. Used recycled board from original barn....believe it is petrified wood by now. Held up after several stormes.
Move in day at 6 weeks. Getting ready for first night. Recycled windows. From house 1847. Helps the coop fit into the rest of the home. Will be interesting to assess choice during New England winters....when the single panes were installed in. The house, it was chilly. The hand made wavy glass really fits in with the farm house architecture.
Roof shingled, windows in. T1-11 used for siding. Another week of either pouring rain or hot humid blaring sun! Framing complete...a good feeling. Now onto the patio, priming and painting, fencing.....The roof contains a vented skylight I acquired from Amazon for around $30. Low expectations but I kept seeing references to ventilation. If the plastic unit fails I can always box out the roof hole in plexiglass. The natural light works well over the roosts. Even in New England humidity and an outdoor temp of 95 degrees, coop inside is tolerable.
