Tell us a little bit about your chicken tractor. How do you move it and how often do you plan to move it?
I'm curious -- was thinking of making a small one that I could move around often since I had one attempted aerial predator. I really would like to know how to get the chickens from their main coop/run into the chicken tractor and back to the run/coop at the end of the day. The only simple solution I can think of is to back tractor to the door and shoo everyone in (or out). And how do you move a mostly bottomless tractor without hurting their feet. lol
@Crooked Chicken
My apology for being so late in my reply. We went through hurricane Irma and while we didn't experience severe destruction the chaos around a hurricane that big can take an entire month from a persons life.
The three coops I have built over the last 15 years have all been movable. I now only have the smallest 5-6 bird coop. (I use it's picture for my avatar). My current coop is small enough that I can move the coop without wheels that have to lower to lift the coop for moving. Both of my previous coops I had to design rachiting mechanisms to lower the wheels raising the coop. The mechanisms worked very well for the heavy coops. The red coop could be moved by hand and the white coop needed to be pulled with my lawn mower/tractor.
I have always moved my coops one full length every day. I have never had a sick chicken and I have raised well over 100 with this method. I also don't allow the coop to cross over a previously used area untill 5-6 months have passed.
If you have questions feel free to ask. I'm busy all the time so I may be slow to reply.
