Lovely Buff Bess. She has a sister also named Bess because it's hard to tell them apart - and they travel far and wide always as a pair. So it's Bess n' Bess. Wonderful backyard friends.

Out scratching after snow has finally melted
Pallio is a our littlest hen but the most independent, She faces off against all challengers: no matter how big or dominant. The other hens have learned to leave her be. When she was a pullet, she would determinedly sleep by herself in the shed every night. I would have to pick her up and carry her to the safety of the coop. She has finally resigned herself to community living, but perches up high in the run - away from the crowd - no matter what the climate is.
