RIP - 3/5/2014 - had to be put down for complications of congestive heart failure at 2 1/2 years old. Nutmeg at 5 months - Silver laced Wyandotte Runt - lays tiny pale tan eggs. Eats like crazy and gets under shovel to get the first dibs. Loud loud loud bird! Always vocalizing and complaining and making herself known. Caws like a seagull or crow more often than like a chicken. And "boop boop boop"s. Sweet little thing. Curious. Not afraid to jump up on your lap or shoulder to get a treat or to see what is going on. Tough as nails no nonsense attitude.

Red - Rhode Island Red - at about 6 months old Red is the boss! Smart, cunning, brave. She sometimes comes when called, rarely "submits" to me (instead squats and tries to "crawl" away). The best layer! From day 1 she laid huge, beautiful, red/brown eggs consistently! She is sweet, but if you make her mad... she will let you know it. She will tolerate the neighbors' big dog (friendly as all get out) but will put him in his place with a peck on his nose if he gets too close.
Puff at 5 months - Easter Egger RIP - died at about 2 years of internal laying, It came on suddenly and she died within 24 hours. Big girl! Timid and a bit skittish but once caught, will settle into the lap and relax. "Talks" to you - looks straight into your eyes and softly goes "bpga bhgah bph bph". Lays extra large blue-green eggs.

Ginger at 5 months - Gold Laced Wyandotte - RIP about 9mo old She was a prissy bird, kept to herself, had a soft deep voice. She got sick about once a month since she arrived - the others never got the slightest ill. She laid eggs for a short while then all soft shell from the roost at night. Tried to fatten her up and see if she would be good for eating once recovered. She didn't gain well and when I processed her - no signs of anything wrong - no parasites and everything looked healthy except noticed that the heart had larger fat pockets than normal. liver was also a bit larger than expected but a healthy color and texture.
Zeebra as a pullet 5 months - Plymouth Barred Rock RIP Nov 2 2012 - (my favorite pet chicken) Cheeky bird! Playful, energetic great flying bug catcher. Tons of energy and so much fun! She loves people and will come when called my name. She is a biter and will "taste" everything.
