After the gravel was set and leveled, I covered with heavy landscape fabric, followed by a layer of 1/2" hardware cloth. Nothing is digging its way in to this coop! Much sand was then added on top of the hardware cloth in the run. The small gravel area is the crawl space under the storage section. I added vents in the sides to keep moisture from becoming a problem under the floor.
That's a one cubic yard bucket, and I filled it four times with washed gravel to make a good drainage base.

They too quickly outgrew the tote box in the dining room, so we had to move the girls in to larger temporary quarters in the garage till the main coop was finished. I built this as a modular unit. Each side, top, and bottom are a single unit held together with a few screws, and can be torn down and stacked and stored in about 20 minutes. The large front panel (facing the house door on the right) swings down to the floor so it's easy to clean. The little door in the corner makes handling and treating the chickens more controllable.
The girls love their greens.
