This is my 9 month old Black Cochin mother hen and her two baby chicks. I kept them in a brooder box for a couple days.
I built this brooder by transforming a table base I found at a thrift store ($7). I added the platform in the middle, which sits on support boards. The top I constructed from 2x4s and materials I found around the farm. There is hardware mesh surrounding on all sides and top. It is stained with leftover fence & wood stain.. It turned out great! Later, I also added roosts and built in electrical lamp sockets for heat lamps.
