I had read that hens like curtains in front of their nesting boxes. I sewed them some curtains, using some chicken fabric I had!
Nov 2014: Deedee and girlfriends were moved into their new coop! They got very used to the sounds of construction :o)
Big bar-type latch that secures the big double coop doors. Very secure and low-cost to make.
The new coop is all sealed up! Also, the posts for the door to the chicken yard are in.
The little tractor run got sun shades when it got really hot in the summer of '14. I also got two old runs from someone for free, from Craigslist. One was 4x4, and one was 8x4. The tractor run got a little chicken door that connected the 4x4 run. The pullets got bigger fast, and I decided they needed a bigger home!
This is the first coop and run I built, a movable one, built in summer 2014 for the little classroom chicks I got. I added a run and a ladder to a rabbit hutch I had gotten from someone. One chick got out of a make-shift pen before this little Inn was completed, and our dog got that one. Then another chick turned out to be a rooster, who went to a farm. That left one pullet, a pretty gray easter egger which I named Deedee. I bought her three friends, a white leghorn, a black star, and another easter egger.
