This brooder was built quickly, but I still designed it to be multi-purpose and highly portable -- the entire flock will be introduced to a new location, by moving all but the table and umbrella onto a post within their permanent home (which will most probably be located high in the wooded valley between the north side of the garden and the middle pasture above the barn).
Few points ... 1. The dividers were raised, so as to prevent the keets from flying over where the new chicks are gonna be (it rotates, so that I can let 'em in when I'm there to monitor the interactions). 2. It's 18" or so, and one keet rounded the back of the brooder, looping back to the front in flight, curving up to land on top (just to rub in the fact that it still ain't high enough ~'-) footnote, in regard to the lights ... Only two, wired in series, which means it lowers the voltage at each bulb, and that if one burns out? The brooder goes black. By mixing bulbs, I can drop more voltage over the lower wattage bulb -- in this shot? A 250w on the right, which barely warms, and a 125w on the left, which is only partially dimmed. The reflector that hangs upon the bulb on the brooder floor increases the measured temperature by only a small amount, but still? It does.
... and, this is the front detail, shot sorta thru the front door. I had to raise the dividers and the interior glass panel, 'cause these keets are already flyin' a bit further and higher than anticipated.
learnin' as I go here, so these curious keets forced me to add additional height to the dividers ... they were flyin' up 'n over. The panels rotate around the centered umbrella support, and the top part includes the hardware cloth on top (this panel fits between and under the two lights, so it can be left in place when the bottom part is repositioned or removed ~'-)

[see previous photo] ... and then the front panel can be removed. The internal glass panel and dividers have since been raised 4-5" because the keets had already begun to fly over. That panel also serves to control the air movement, and this brooder allows for continuous fresh air without the birds havin' to suffer any drafts.
The back three sides of this hexagonal are high enough to allow 18" beneath the two lights centered within the heat chamber. I'm reachin' in to open the lid ... [see next photo]
Rooftop carrier gutter clips tied to elastic cording secures to top down, which must be lifted before the front door can be slid up 'n out. The second glass, visible through the door, serves to control air flow, as well as to allow folks a stress-free view into the world of keets (and chicks, in a few days ~'-)
