This is Thunder Chicken's after picture. He was bloody. I checked him and he wasn't injured. I don't know if the blood came from the hen that was killed or the predator. I should have put them all in the IBC because I knew we were on high alert for predators. I had put my sweet hens in an IBC that I rigged for maximum protection. It seemed like my chicken pen was just a feeding trough for the predators. Once we killed a 'possum and a raccoon, I thought they would be okay. I still didn't want to put them in the pen, though. I felt like they had a better chance outside. Then, came the dogs. We couldn't catch a break.

This is Thunder Chicken. He was a gift from a very nice neighbor. It was her last chicken. He was a warrior. This is his before battle picture. He was so beautiful and white. It was taken when I first put him in the pen. I kept him with a couple of my stronger hens just to see the extent of his reputation for being "a mean one".
This was my first dozen...a couple of years, ago. I didn't expect to feel so excited, being that my childhood was so much "work" on the farm. I always loved the animals, though, even back then. Getting the eggs, to me, has always been my personal Easter egg hunt. Predators did a smash and grab on some eggs. I found eggshells and busted eggs in the house on the wooden floor.
