Typical coloring of a BSL. When I ordered them I assumed they would be solid black like an Australorpe but they have these neat ginger colored feathers around the cape.
Here's one with much more of the ginger coloring. Olivia our 7 year old granddaughter has named her 'Ginger' because of it. There's another one that is marked similarly and she named her 'Goldie'.

Three of the BSL Gals out free-ranging for about an hour before dark. Nice looking birds.
We got three of these 'mega-sized' eggs on the same day. The BSL hens had just started laying in early December 2012 and these were collected about a month later. The one weighed over 3-1/2 ounces according to Teresa's food scale.
