I have a 2 stage filter that is used for other purposes a couple times a year. I added some quick connect fittings so I can borrow it from my birds occasionally. They are similar to ones home depot has but I got them from my irrigation guy much cheaper. When connected to the nipple system I just use a 10 micron filter - so one canister is empty. Those 10 micron filter are about $3. Others uses may require a carbon block filter.

Inside the tank. Pump at the bottom, outlet thru the top. Inlet thru uniseal at bottom.
Tank connection: - 1/2" Uniseal Bulkhead fitting - 1/2" ball valve - 1/2" Union fitting
Nipples can be taken apart for cleaning. I used a tap to thread the pcv pipe and teflon tape.
