We used gravel to level the ground then sand over that for easy clean-up.
Choosing the hardware for the McCoop was lots of fun! My husband has never built anything more than a crude shelving system in our old house years ago & he just amazed me with how well he's built the 32"x72" door.
The 1/2" thick T1-11 wall was painted & installed on the side of the nest boxes. We also designed that section to have 2 small doors below the henhouse to access the chickens if we need to.

We started putting 1/2"x1/2" hardware cloth in the run.
I started painting & we put the floor of the henhouse down using 1/2" plywood raised 2 feet off the ground.
