Went in hen house first thing this morning, all OK. Opened sixlets cage and hen house door then went to get feed and water. Heard one squeal. Went back out and found rooster in hen house doorway and sixlets in open cage with 1 dead. Think rooster was the problem. Now I have hours of reading to do about separating and integrating chickens of different ages.....looked closely at pullet. Unable to determine cause of death. Totally sucks!! This is 1 of 6 if last chicks I incubated and hatched. It is almost 2 months old.

Gathered these eggs that have been laid since last week. Gotta get the nesting area reworked and hens on nests. They have been laying outside for the last few weeks.
What I am currently doing with carcauses. When I first started incubating and hatching last year, the little chicks that made it out of shell alive but did not live long, all had burials. But the sick chicks that didn't make it and the 1 killed this morning got cremated. Got more reading to do on this subject too. Not near enough time for my new addiction.

Rats are a constant battle. Put the Dr. Pepper can in pic for perspective. Got this one not 30 minutes after I put out trap tonight.
Baby chick peeking out from momma. Looks like it's sleeping. Thank you everyone for info on site. Patience....am keeping eye on them. But not disturbing.
