All of the shuttered windows and the Restore window are covered with this open diamond plate screening that we got from the salvage yard. This is about as predator proof as we could get.
The exterior nesting box plans were from the many different versions that I looked at on BYC. There are 4 nests accessible from the outside for gathering eggs.
The interior wall separates the coop part from the food & storage part of the Shack. We used some weather barrier around the outside of the Shack that was left over from our barn project. The walls and ceiling are fully insulated using leftovers from a "buddy's" remodel project.

Since we do not have very much shade, we decided to start our Chicken Shack as we would a deck allowing enough space underneath for chicks to have a place to hang out in the shade. We started with treated 4x4's and 2x6's. Then covered the frame with hardware cloth. The bottom of the frame will be covered in hardware cloth that is buried to make it predator proof.
After the frame was finished we used some recycled 3/4" plywood for the floor and covered that with linoleum. We then built the frames for the walls on the floor and stood them up and attached them so they didn't fall back over!
