Our three older chicks. They are about 5 weeks old in this pic. From left to right we have Butterscotch, Queenie and Snow. They are a mix of Phoenix and ISA Brown. There were 6 of them originally but we are unable to keep roosters. We get 6 chicks and half of them turn out to be roos. Go figure! And one of the roosters was our favorite chick!!
Miss Pip. She was just a couple days old when we got her and her two cohorts in crime. So fluffy and soft. Our people girls just love the chicks. My oldest daughter would have dozens of chicks if you let her. She's got chicken math down.....
A view of our coop. The people doors are there on the back. The nesting box on the left. It isn't finished on the inside yet but we have time. Still have some improvements to make. Need to get ventilation for summer and winter done, but the roosting bars are up and the girls love them. Took to them the first day. Hardware cloth around the entire coop with poultry wire to the top. Bird netting (doubled over) on the top to keep out the hawks that I see circling in the neighborhood.

Our youngest cleaning the coop. She begged. Yes, begged to clean it. Let's see how long that lasts! It's not great for middle aged backs to work in there (I'm 25 plus shipping and handling) but it works. The chicks have room to roost as well as wander around aimlessly waiting for us to bring out the apples.
Work begins on the addition. Please don't check it for square or any other signs of perfection. The hubby and son worked hard to get it ready for chicks. And it is just as sturdy as the original coop. If one screw is good, four more ought to do it. God help us if we ever need to take it down....
The side opened up to make room for roosting. She's not pretty but she has good bones. And the chickens will love it. The girls (people ones) are already plotting the playhouse they want daddy to build. The honey do list never ends....
