Not at all, they love mice! My girls use to catch them all the time and it’s so funny to watch them run away from the others because they all want it. Hens love lizards, mice, dirt babies & anything like that they can catch.
Depending on the weather if it’s cold, are your girls feathered yet? If not quite yet it doesn’t hurt to have a lamp, especially in pm. You can raised it little higher and higher each week until they don’t need it anymore. If your girls are in an enclosed area w/no draft they should be ok.
I lost 8 hens overnight, yes nothing but feathers. They were coyotes & came back to try to get more in the am when I discovered the hens missing. It is truly devastating! I accidentally left my coop door ajar and thought it was shut it even has a Baldwin key/lock on it, what happen it just did...
She is pecking at you because she is protecting her eggs. If she was broody she will puff out, make funny noises and will not leave the nesting box. I’ve had a lot of girls go broody and I would break them each time cause I did not have a roo so no fertilize eggs. Also you said she laid an egg...
Well that sounds like better news since she is eating, not sure where you live but I did hear in the Southern California region they have a Lotta chickens that have Newcastle disease, hopefully that’s not the case. I would take some plain yogurt and mix it with her crumble & anything else she...

Vent looks swollen, do you know when she laid an egg last? I agree w/the last post. Do an exam as it is a normal routine. If so you can soak her in a warm bath make sure her bottom is in the water for about 15 min. Sometimes this helps to release an egg. If you see yellow yolk like dirty...
Good point, when I saw her i thought she couldn't breath so my hubby gave cpr (believe or not) and she revived! Her head was down drooping and could not lift by herself, unless I set her down and head back then she was ok, eyes closed and every now and then she would perk up and then same thing...
I went down to the coop this morning and noticed in the run about 9am my light brahma 7mo old had her head down, I thought she was dying, couldn't breath or injured. Took her and put her in the garage, not sure if it's an injury or maybe she might have freaked out from a predator coming by the...
Flush her eye out with eye saline solution, and apply terramycin ointment, quips are good to get the piss out. Do it 2x a day. Could be the start of dry fowl pox, as this is what started with one of my 1st hens just red and swollen, then it showed up in a handful of the rest of my birds...
