    Big belly, no eggs

Hi! So sorry about your hen. She is beautiful. I recently lost a hen and sent her to the state's poultry lab. My hen had a bacterial infection that they get from dirt. I had another one come down with the same thing and she survived. I gave her aspirin to help with the pain and swelling...

Acified copper sulfate or valbazen? Bright yellow poop!

Quote: Worm eggs are everywhere in the soil, grass etc...it's inevitable that chickens will eventually get worms. Normally, blackhead infection is more problematic and deadly in turkey's. The main concern would be the cecal worm in chickens, but it's best to treat the chickens first with the...

Acified copper sulfate or valbazen? Bright yellow poop!

Thanks Dawg. How the heck did this happen? I practice safe measures clean shavings, sanitize with oxine, spray the coops to prevent lice, dust them.....I just lost one of my hens! I must have misread the directions as I have already added the vinegar ... Should I just forgo that and do...

Acified copper sulfate or valbazen? Bright yellow poop!

Hi All. Somehow I have some chickens with bright yellow poo. It's runny. They are lethargic. It's not impacting all of them but I have three that were just fine a couple of days ago. I was doing some research on here and came to the conclusion I am dealing with blackhead. I have (had) a...

    6 1/2 hours later.....exhausted and aching!

So sorry for your head aches! I think you have to retreat the coop and chickens in a week to break the cycle of Lice/mite eggs hatching. I don't know about the chicks. Good luck. I am sure someone will post a reply soon!

    i'm confused about necrospy results...

so sorry for your loss. those mites can be really hard on the birds. They break their immune systems down. Best to resolve the mite problem first, isolate your hen from the other and give her extra tlc. Just a thought. Goodluck!

    Hawk Repellent for Large Run??

Quote: Yes. If the netting is too loose the hawk will make the attack.. then wait for your chickens to fly up in a panic then the hawk grabs the chicken through the netting. Hawks are too smart! I use conduit tubing to elevate the netting above the dog kennel panels. I use firring strips to...

    Hawk Repellent for Large Run??

So sorry for your loss. I have a huge run and I put deer netting up. I have personally watched the hawks bounce off the netting trying to dive bomb my birds. It comes in 100' rolls seven feet wide. I use zip ties to marry the edges together when installing it. It's about $20.00 per roll...

Wonder if coop setup is what is attracting rats?

My Border collies do great with all my animals....cats goats , horses, chickens, kittens! My four month old kitten killed a rat this morning. We also use the poison that doesn't injure our dogs and cats with secondary exposure. My cats have done a great job with rodent patrol! Good luck...

Are Tomato Hornworms Toxic to Chicks, Or Not?

Mine won't go near them. I've picked them off the tomato plants and thrown them on the ground..my girls come running...look at the horned worms, peck at the worm then run the other way! Thought for sure they would love them.....no such luck!

*UPDATE* Post #24 Sounds kinda like a yipping hyena?

I'll bet coyotes. My border Collies will stop in their tracks if they hear them yipping...turn their head all different ways as if trying to understand the coyote language! SCARY!
