We've had an older Amberlink hen die a few weeks ago. It wasn't sudden and we thought it was because of age. However, now we have another hen ( 6year old Australorp) slowing down as well. She's mostly just standing around with her tail down.
My daughter seems to think it's food related since it...
We found one of our almost 5 year old Australorp hens dead in the coop this morning. Definitely not predator related. Not sure when she may have died, but she was rigorred already. She was laying on her back, the neck feathers were ruffled a bit, the wings looks a little spread, not tight...
Yesterday morning my husband found one of our beloved chicken dead.😭😭
She has been broody for about 3-4 weeks, but has been eating and drinking and her comb and wattles looked good.
What could she have died from? She was just outside of the nest, stiff. No sign of any struggle.

We've had a hen go broody and bought some hatching eggs for her. 3 out of 10 were broken over the course of time.
It's been 24 days since putting the eggs under the chicken and nothing has hatched. The bird keeps sitting on them though. Is there any chance something will still hatch? If not...

Hi,
we had somewhat of a mystery happen this week. One of our chicks that's been raised by our broody went missing out of closed coop without a trace. We looked all over for feathers, beak, wings, legs, nothing. Not even feathers from an agitated mom hen. It's just gone. What kind of predator...
These girls have been together since they were itty-bitty chickies. Other than the weather, nothing has changed. They're all at varies stages of molt though.
Our flock of chickens has had some strange behavior two nights ago. We heard loud chicken noises in the middle of the night, went out and two of them I trying to get out of the enclosure. No sign of any predators around. The next morning our smallest and lowest bird was just sitting there...
Our birds are now around 18 months old. The have stopped laying eggs about a week and a half ago and since a few days ago there are feathers all over the coop and the run. The seems to preen themselves a lot as well and most of the time loose feathers fall off.
I've bought them feather fixer...
