    First time Cornish meat birds-advice

We did all 17 chickens today. What an easy process. Chickens came out great. The worst part about it all was the cheap vacuum sealer we bought. Can’t wait to try one of these chickens out

    First time Cornish meat birds-advice

Thanks for the advice everyone. We plan on doing them Saturday. Which will be 8 weeks old. Some are bigger then the others but I assume that’s male vs female. I have my table, water, cooler, plucker, “cone” all set up. I’m a newbie at this and this is my first time doing it. I have no problem...

    First time Cornish meat birds-advice

Hello all, chickens are just about 7 weeks old and they’re getting big! I do have a question though. A few chickens in the breast area have a bump out that feels almost spongy. I don’t know if it’s normal or the bird is sick. I will attach a picture although it’s kind of hard to tell in the...

    First time Cornish meat birds-advice

Been a while since I’ve posted on here, my little flock turned into 30 hens, followed by getting goats, and a pig. Anyways, we wanted to expand our horizon so we decided this year we will get meat chickens. We went to tractor supply yesterday and bought 17. They had some that were a week old...

    Selling chicken eggs?

Not sure if this is the right spot to post this, anyways here it goes: I posted up on my local FB page about eggs I have I wanted to donate them....but I had an overwhelming amount of people wanting to buy them. I did end up selling 9 dozen for now, talking to my brother he asked me what if...

    8x8 coop or 10x12 coop?

I most definitely will still do some tweaking to the nesting boxes and roosting bars. I am just trying to get a feel for what the chickens like best and what is the easiest for collecting eggs.

    8x8 coop or 10x12 coop?

Update: after what felt like forever I finally got the new shed. Got it all leveled and done. built the nesting boxes today and added 3 roosting bars, got the lights hung inside, and the chickens love it! We should be building a run within the next couple of weeks. We have been getting snow...

    8x8 coop or 10x12 coop?

Just got the hardware cloth in today. Looks like it’s much better then the chicken wire. All I’m waiting on is some roof Panels, the shed, and some 2x10s and I should be able to get this project rolling.

    8x8 coop or 10x12 coop?

Thanks for the info. Tools isn’t the problem. I have more tools than I know what to do with. I will use screws and fender washers. I have a whole sale account at my local nut and bolt store. I bet I can get the fender washers cheap.

    8x8 coop or 10x12 coop?

As the time is coming closer for the shed to be delivered I have gathered some materials so far for the run. I bought the 2x4s from a sawmill which saved me almost $70 and they are true 2x4s very solid and straight. I ordered the hardware cloth online since it was less than Home Depot or Lowe’s...

    8x8 coop or 10x12 coop?

Thanks for the info....I realize chickens try to find stuff in the dirt and everything else. I will look into flooring to put over the floor inside the coop. My run was once nice and grassy but they have since turned it into dirt. With the rain and stuff It’s kind of hard to avoid the mud...

    8x8 coop or 10x12 coop?

As always, nothing but great info here. I don’t have the shed yet, but it will not be sitting on dirt, there will be stone and then it will be placed on concrete blocks. I’m sure if I put down a bunch of hay or bedding it’ll absorb most of the moisture from their pee/poop before I have to worry...

    8x8 coop or 10x12 coop?

As I anxiously await my new shed to turn into the coop I’m pondering some more ideas. The floor in the shed is wood(obviously) before I throw bedding down and the chickens do their business on it. I would like to put something over the wood to protect it from getting wet to prolong any rot that...

    8x8 coop or 10x12 coop?

That’s exactly what I was thinking after I posted my previous comment. That’s what I will do. Plus it’ll save me some money on hardware cloth. the run is actually going to be a 8x20. My brother talked me into it.

    8x8 coop or 10x12 coop?

Thank you for the links. It looks like they just laid the hardware cloth on top of the ground. Flush with the bottom of the coop? wouldn’t something still be able to dig under it starting from a foot away from the coop?
