Spinning quail, heat stroke? Head injury?

I just wanted to give an update in case someone comes across this in archives. It's been four days since my birds illness. No tractor supplies had any savachick in stock, they said they haven't in a long time because of the high heat we've been having. The closest was over an hour away. I went...

Spinning quail, heat stroke? Head injury?

The water is down in her hospital cage and I feed her some water with a dropper every now and then just for peace of mind. I have seen her drink in the hospital cage. No new poops today, so I'm assuming she's not eating. She was in the main cage though so I'm wondering if it's that the container...

Spinning quail, heat stroke? Head injury?

Hello everyone, I'm a bit confused on what happened to one of my quail and wondering if anyone has some advice. Yesterday afternoon I noticed one of my girls acting funny. I took her inside and she is acting like maybe she had a stroke? Her head is tilted so one eye is always looking at the sky...

    Prolapsed ceca?

Hello everyone! Three days ago I noticed one of my ladies puffed with a wet tail. Turns out she had a textbook prolapse. I cleaned her up and gently pushed the prolapse back in and added some hydrocortisone for the swelling. She was then kept in a "hospital" box in my dark bathroom to keep her...

    Quail won’t stop CROWING.

Besides vent checking, one way I found that was easy to see if I had a male or not was to put it in a kennel (or whatever container) and then keep it inside with me where I could hear it. They will eventually crow looking for friends. If they don't crow after 30 minutes, pretty good chance it's...

    Wanted: Celadon Egg PICTURES

These are some that my girls lay. I got mine from Rising Phoenix Farm. The lady (Heather) was very nice and gave me a call when I had questions. All my girls from her are blue egg layers. Eggs are light blue (not white with a little blue, just light blue. My camera makes them a bit darker than...

    My JUMBO Italian Celadon Project

I would be highly interested in jumbo celadons. I specifically have celadons because their eggs are easy to find on the ground but always think how it would be nice to have bigger eggs and bigger roosters in the freezer.

Please show me your courtaix quail accommodation

This is mine. Roughly 8'L 4'W 2.5'H. 1/4" hardware cloth including on the bottom so no one can dig in, compost bottom, batting on the lid for any bonking, fake plants, and two sand baths. I also made a removable sectioner (which is in the photos) in case I need to do intros or have a hospital...

    What's the Deal with Quail?

Just wanted to add to the magic of quail poo in the garden. My winter garden (lettuce and brassicas) needed a quick pick me up. I took a few scoops of quail poo and put it in a five gallon bucket, flled the bucket up with water, let it sit for 24hrs, then watered my garden with it. The garden...

Quail Feeder and Water. Does anyone use these?

I've got 14 in the cage with four cups connected to the bucket. I'd say I refill the bucket about every other day during summer. So far I have not gotten any algae growth (which is why I only fill about four inches at a time, so new water is always in there).

Quail Feeder and Water. Does anyone use these?

So my set up is a bit unconventional. I have just the cups held on to the cage mesh with the wingnut that comes with the cups. Then I have irrigation tubing running from the cups to a five gallon bucket that I fill with maybe four inches of water or so at a time.

Quail Feeder and Water. Does anyone use these?

If these are the cups from rentacoop I adore them. It gets really hot where I am and I see the girls kinda mouth the water like ducks when it's hot out. I see a lot of people saying they're hard to clean but I just swirl a bottle brush in the cup, then invert the cup to dump the dirty water...

A video of hens scratching in the sunshine

Very informative, thank you!! I had no idea about cecal poop, maybe that's what I'm seeing since I rarely see the brown poop and my girls appear in good health. I'll have to read up on that. Thank you again, and here's to a better 2021!

A video of hens scratching in the sunshine

Could you give me a quick run down of your CORID treatment? I'm a new owner (1 year) and am about to give my girls their first run of treatment since they're on leaf litter and compost and I've noticed some dark brown manuer. I was going to follow this guide for chickens...

    Best Quail Dispatching Shear?

To reiterate what Nabiki said, I use kitchen sheers that are probably at least 20 years old. The difference is in his sharp they are, so now I'm always sure to sharpen before dispatch, even if I don't think they need a sharpening. I also wiggle the sheers before I cut so they're under the...
