Hmm that could be. We have water pail in there that the quail occasionally get themselves stuck behind (they're not the smartest...). So she could have gotten bruised if she got stuck back there, and squeezed herself through a small space to get out.
She didn't look especially pecked at. The...
We had a quail that had a paralyzed leg. We weren't sure what it was, so we decided to cull her to avoid risk of getting the other quails sick. When butchering her, my husband found that the meat of the legs had spots of green. Any idea what this might be?
I read that a paralyzed leg could be a...
I did candle the eggs yesterday. There were a few that didn't look good, and a few that still look like they could hatch.
I've been putting duckling feed close to the nest, and the water isn't too far away. I just went out a little while ago and found that she had kicked out one of the bad eggs...
We have 3 ducklings!! She just brought them outside for the first time today. They're adorable :D.
Unfortunately we still have a lot more eggs in the nest that she's no longer sitting on. Is there something we should be doing about those, or are they all goners?
Well mom still wont let me take a close look, but today I see at least one empty egg shell and am definitely hearing a chick. So we have at least one chick! I can see there's still other eggs unhatched that she's sitting on.
Will do! I had to close up the birds early today due to the weather so, I don't think I'm going to see her get up off of the nest today. I did just go in there and I'm 90% sure I heard some baby cheeps coming from the nest. It's hard to hear with my chickens in there, but I got a few quiet moments.
I just caught mom off the nest again and took another look. Assuming mom didn't crack the egg, it looks like we've got one externally pipped! I think at least one or two more of the ones I looked at were internally pipped. I couldn't really feel the movement, but I could see movement inside...
Well we're now about 10 days beyond when I thought they would be hatching. The eggs look like they're on their last days, but I feel like they've looked like that for the past week. Any further advice? Just keep waiting?
Hi all! I've got a Muskovy Duck that's been sitting on a nest of eggs for about 41 days. It's possible I started counting from the wrong day. At the beginning she was leaving the nest a few times a day to eat before eventually never leaving, or rarely leaving once a day. Maybe I should have...
