Hi all,
I won hatching eggs 2 years ago and hatched only roosters! Kept one and he has the most gentle sweet nature not to mention how big and beautiful my boy is.
I really would like to carry on his temperament and characteristics although, I don't know about breed perfection standard.

How big are your girls? How much do they weigh? Sometimes if they are really tiny, they won't lay(say 6-8oz or so, but I'm no expert on the weight )They call these mini and micro mini . But, they could be just late. (maybe they know what's coming and just don't want to grow up)!!
Anyone...
Sorry,I've been away for a while (off the forum).
You are absolutely right,Gooselady, this forum is for teaching, learning, answering questions, showing off your chickens and babies. Sometimes people come down harder than intended or just worded a response in the wrong way. Just take these responses...
Alot of breeders are in areas that are too hot to send birds through the mail riight now. If I were you (and will be this fall) I would get silkied Serama from Junebug in Okahoma. She breeds exclusively Silkieds and they are wonderful. ( just FYI:Silkied Serama are a veriety of Serama whereas...
Yes, I've also heard that shipped eggs should be left to stand at least 24hrs in for the membrane to reattach.
Good luck! Please let us know how many you hatched!
Teresa,
Very sweet babies! Congratulations, I love silkieds. They are unusual, soft, and so gentle.
The earliest sign of silkied feathering are the wings. The tips appear tattered. Chick on the left is definately silkied.

This was to be a silkied to silkied breeding project, but, I am unable to go ahead with it.
I have 2 generations. The foundation pair is a straight to silkied breeding. They gave me 2 males and one female that are 1 year old. Also, I have a repeat breeding of 1 male and 1 female that are 3 mos...

Hi Catwalk!
Would You Please Talk About The "creeper Gene"? I've Heard Of It And It Is Said To Be Lethal,if I Understand Correctly.
I Have Heard That Japanese Bantams Carry The Creeper Gene And It Has Something To Do With Length Of Leg.
This Seems An Important Issue. Agree?
Thanks Bluegrass Seramas, she seemed fine.I checked her vent and it seemed okay to me. Went out later in the day yesterday and lo and behold there was an egg in her nest! May have scared it out of her! Anyway, problem solved. This always happens to me. Wait and wait for something in the mail...
