‘Tila is doing just fine! We’ve gotten down to -26F outside (+3F in the coop, using two Sweeter Heater units above the roost). Temps have been staying +10F to -15F. She gives us an egg 5-6 days a week. No sign of frostbite. She’s active and happy. We do keep our flock confined to the coop on...
Not sure where in MN the eggs are shipping from, we live in northern Minnesota…here’s a screenshot of weather for the next 10 days. I think I’d take a hard pass on shipping eggs from here to Montana…
As a pullet reaches point of lay the comb will turn bright red.

We have kept a house chicken, two separate times. The first was a norwegian jaerhon. We used a double decker cage from Critter Nation. Worked out great, easy to clean, small...
Just thinking out loud here…regarding ventilation on an A-frame…if you use ridge vent (like what is used on the roof of a house), or build a ridge vent/inverted “V” along the length of the ridge, you would be able to cover the A-frame up to the vent for protection from wind/rain/snow, and still...
We live near International Falls, temps easily -20 and lower for weeks at a time, plus wind, plus snow…
We built our coop this year and yes, we insulated! We built our 10x10 coop like a house and then added lots of adjustable ventilation. Our humidity DROPS in the winter so we weren’t too...
