Hi All,
I have five hens and recently introduced two more pullets (not at point of lay yet) to my flock for a total of seven chickens. They have ample room in the coop (coop is rated for up to 8 hens, with six nesting boxes and two roosts). They also have ample room in the run, which is 6'...
I am curious to know the answer to this as well. How big are Orpingtons compared to Brahmas? I have two white Brahmas that boss around the other hens in my flock (2 EE's and 2 Hedemoras). I was hoping to introduce a couple of lavender Orpington hens to keep the Brahmas in check. Thanks!
So I would like to amend a previous post regarding MPC.
I ordered light brahma's, but now after six weeks it appears that the birds are in fact dark brahmas. Not the end of the world, just not what I ordered.
As MPC got the chicks from Meyer, it's unclear if it was their error or the hatchery.
I have four pullets that I bought from Meyer hatchery that all were vaccinated for Mareks. Currently, I have two chicks that I hatched out as eggs, purchased from a reputable breeder.
Would it be wise to vaccinate the chicks that were hatched out? If the chicks seem healthy and happy at 2+...
Thanks Pyxis. This is my first batch of chickens and I am still learning. Didn't know that roosters tend to feather slowly.
The chicks came from Meyer hatchery, which I thought was a reputable place to buy chickens. They were sold as light bramas. The chick with more feathers, seems to be...
There are two six week old, light Brahma pullets in my brooder. Sugar is fully feathered and looks, well, normal. Sydney is the scraggly one with only some of her feathers. Not sure what happened. Sydney eats a lot, drinks a lot and is quite active.
They are currently enjoying the Scratch...
It has been posted on BYC and at other online sources, that somewhere between 6-8 weeks is the time to transfer your pullets from the brooder to their permanent living quarters. I have four, six week old pullets that are in the brooder and I have a couple of concerns about moving them outside...
Hi All, Looking for a little advice. We are on day 22 and one of my three eggs has hatched out within a couple of hours.
The other two eggs are chirping and have been for 24 hours, but have been chirping less and less. They have not piped externally. Should I be concerned at this point...
I wonder if this applies to light Brahmas as well. I have two of them and only one is on the slow side as far as development-hardly any feathers except on the wing tips. The chick seems happy, alert, active and is eating and drinking plenty. Maybe this varies by chicken?
I also have a runty little chicken named Sydney. She is light brahma about 3 weeks old and is smaller than the other three pullets in the brooder (about 2/3 the size). Not tremendously smaller but enough so that it is noticeable and definitely lighter weight than the others. What is really...
I have one Easter Egger chick that is very sweet and laid back. The other chick is just the opposite and wants nothing to do with people. Not friendly and very flighty. It really depends on the personality. Mine are too young to lay, but I am hoping that they will produce a good amount of eggs.
I know that this is an old thread, but I wanted to share a similar experience. Last week I received 2 EE's and 2 light brama chicks from Meyer Hatchery. One of the light bramas has fused toes. She is my favorite chicken, very sweet and calm personality. Does seem to have some trouble...
So I made a small cut between the toes. It started to bleed like crazy and I did not finish separating the toes. Just taped her up and she seems to be doing fine. I think bringing her to the avian vet would be a better option. As she will be a rather big hen, better balance will probably be...
