My 2 cents. If warm water expands the contents of the egg, does it not also expand the shell making it more porous and also if using cold water shrinks the contents inside, doesn't it also shrink the shell making it less porous?

    Shipped eggs..

We bought 48 eggs first part of Dec. We had 4 hatch. We will never buy eggs in the winter again. We also bought 42 live chicks in Jan. Only 15 survived that cold ordeal. We only live 2 hours from a hatchery. So now on we pick up the live chicks ourselves.

    Question about turning eggs.

Your incubator isn't the " EGG INCUBATOR " from China is it? Fully automatic? Bright yellow top and cradle? If it is, I am having trouble with mine also, will not turn the eggs. Just kind of rocks side to side, if it moves at all.

    Egg turning

Yes the eggs are set upright with the small end down. I discovered today the problem why this incubator wasn't working properly. The arm which is used as a lever came off of the motor shaft. Once I reconnected it, egg cradle now swings either right or left and stays in that position until the...

    Egg turning

I am incubating RIR eggs right now in a recently purchased " EGG INCUBATOR". This machine will turn the eggs every two hours. What it actually does is swing the eggs either right or left momentarily and then back to the bottom position. Is this sufficient turning for the eggs? Thanks

    Just joined

Hello to everyone, I too just recently joined BYC. I am sorry for your loss also. I have never raised any chickens before. But when I was growing up on a farm in NW Ohio, we would raise 3500 turkeys at a time. I am just putting the finishing touches on my coup. I was hoping to have 48 RIR eggs...
